Stephen Poliakoff CBE (born 1 December 1952 in Holland Park in West London, England) is an acclaimed British playwright, director and scriptwriter, widely judged amongst Britain's foremost television dramatists.
Carries a plastic drinking straw that he always fidgets with, initially as a cigarette substitute, but is now an incessant habit.
His play, Blinded by the Sun performed at the Royal National Theatre: Cottesloe, was awarded the 1997 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best New Play of 1996
He was awarded the 1996 London Critics Circle Theatre Award (Drama) for Best New Play for Blinded by the Sun.
Brother of Professor Martyn Poliakoff of The University of Nottingham.
He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honors List for his services to drama.
