Stephen Mendel (born in Montreal, Canada) is an actor
He started his acting career there appearing at the two English language professional theatres upon graduating from Bishop's University. He moved to Los Angeles and was then cast in the CTV series Night Heat which ran from 1985 to 1990, playing the role of Detective Fred Carson. He has guest-starred in numerous television episodics, appeared in many movies both made for television and theatrical releases. Among his many voice roles, he voiced the role of Splinter in the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation series as well as a great number of television and radio commercials and industrial and educational narration.
He won a best supporting actor award for his work in After Crystal Night at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles and kudos for the role of Froggy in The Foreigner at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Stephen Mendel began singing at age 8. Schooled in Montreal, he graduated Bishop's U. with a BA in drama and began working almost immediately in theater. Film and TV roles followed quickly. He moved to Los Angeles, and shortly was cast in the CBS series "Night Heat" (1985), filmed in Toronto, Canada, spending five seasons on the show as Det. Fred Carson. Very much a chameleon, he is often unrecognizable from one role to the next, playing cops, crooks, scientists, doctors, good guys and bad. He grows beards, mustaches, wears hairpieces, glasses, etc., in the quest to capture the character. He has studied with many teachers but uses an unstudied synergistic approach to acting. A master of accents and dialects, he also does voice work in animation, narration and voice over work. He loves to sing, especially folk music, and plays the guitar. He also studies an obscure martial art, akijustsu, and skis, scuba and dives.
