Status Quo, also known as The Quo or just Quo, are an English rock band whose music is characterised by a strong boogie line. The group was founded by bassist Alan Lancaster and guitarist Francis Rossi in 1962, becoming "The Status Quo" in late 1967, and finally settling on the name "Status Quo" in 1970. They have recorded over 60 chart hits in the UK— more than any other rock group in history.

They began as a rock and roll freakbeat band called The Spectres. By 1967, with very little commercial success, they discovered psychedelia and changed their name to Traffic (later Traffic Jam, to avoid confusion with Steve Winwood’s Traffic.) At this time the line-up also included organist Roy Lynes and drummer John Coghlan. Late in 1967 they recruit
