Spin is a 1995 documentary film by Brian Springer composed of raw satellite feeds exposing politicians' pre-speech planning. It covers, not only the United States presidential primaries, 1992 and presidential election, but also the LA riots as well as the Operation Rescue abortion protests.
After a near-fatal bicycle accident, Ray, a physicist, becomes obsessed with the event. Neglecting everything else in his life, he attempts to understand what happened to him, analyzing the minute causes and consequences of every moment of the accident. But with each answer he finds only deeper questions, and as he delves further into the murky depths of quantum physics, he isolates himself from the world outside his mind. When the search for answers finally leads him to what he believes is a fundamental paradox, his obsession reaches a fever pitch--with disastrous consequences. Written by Anonymous
Infused with sex, passion and betrayal, SPIN is the story of Latinos striving to attain the American Dream within the sexy Latin Music world of Miami. Though its characters fall prey to their own greed and ambition the story gives hope of redemption. Clichés of the "Latino" of typical Hollywood fare are broken. Latinos "own" the screen in this fresh vision of a world where the American dream, accessible to the driven, comes with choices and consequences. The film targets a crossover English speaking audience with its fast paced, music and dance driven bitter-sweet drama set in the world of the beautiful, the wealthy and the self made Miami Latino music crowd. This English-language film will attract a Spanish and English speaking audience, both in the U.S and Internationally. Written by SPR
The final cut of the film contains over 300 shots.
The producer, Joe Sekiya, has a cameo as the guy buying drugs from the drug dealer.
Director Winans discovered Hayz II at a hip-hop show. Listening to Hayz motivated him to go home and write this short script. He then convinced actor friends to volunteer, enticed a couple of tough-looking guys he knew on MySpace.com to play the thugs, and hit the streets with Hayz and his tables.
The film took five days to shoot on a Sony HDV camera.
"Spin" tells the story of a boy who loses his parents in a plane crash, is taken in by his uncle (Tucci), who then leaves him for ten years in the care of his Hispanic ranch hand (Blades) and his wife (Delany). Eight year old Eddie's parents are killed when the plane his father is piloting crashes into a mountain near their home. Eddie's uncle Frank, who is also a pilot, is left to care for the boy. Soon, however, Frank takes a long-term job abroad and Eddie is left to be raised by ranch manager Ernesto and his school-teacher wife Margaret. When Frank returns ten years later and fulfills his brother's wish that Eddie be taught to fly, Eddie struggles to find his bearings as a young man with mixed emotions toward his uncle, his love for the couple who raised him, the loss of his birth parents, and his blossoming first love with Francesca. As children, Francesca and Eddie are schoolmates, but separate when her family moves away. She and her father return to the town when she is in high school. Now teenagers, Francesca and Eddie are on the verge of becoming more than friends until Francesca flees to Mexico after experiencing a life-changing incident. Written by Anonymous
Pirated satellite feeds revealing U.S. media personalities' contemptuous plans for their viewers come full circle in Spin. TV out-takes appropriated from network satellite feeds unravel the tightly spun fabric of television, a system which silences public debates and furthers the intolerance of anyone outside the pack of journalists, politicians, spin doctors and televangelists who manufacture the news. Spin moves through the L.A. rebellion and the floating TV talk-show called the 1992 U.S. presidential election. Written by Anonymous
