Son of a gun is a slang term present in American and British English which can be used approvingly, disparagingly or to express surprise.
"Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)" is the third single from Janet Jackson's seventh studio album, All for You. Released in 2001/2002, the single (which features Carly Simon, Missy Elliott, and P. Diddy) peaked at number twenty-eight in the U.S. becoming Jackson's thirtieth top forty single. The song is notable for being Jackson's first single as a lead artist to miss the top ten since the Control era. The song is also noted for its sample usage of Simon's 1972 "You're So Vain".
"Son of a Gun" is a song by Scottish indie rock band, The Vaselines. This song was well known after Seattle-based grunge band Nirvana covered it for their 1992 release, Incesticide. The song became a subsequent radio-staple in the early and mid-nineties. "Son of a Gun" was written by Frances McKee about "love and shooting your gun."
