Scoop is a 2006 UK-set romantic comedy/murder mystery written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Ian McShane, and Allen himself. Focus Features released the film, which was rated PG-13 by the MPAA for "some sexual content."
'The Scoop' begins with a wounded man trying to get away from his attacker. He finds temporary sanctuary in a University dorm, where he hides a letter in a mail box. He is then found by his attacker who kills him. Jeff is you typical college senior. He finds the letter in his mailbox and sees that it is addressed to the Vice President of the University. Thinking he might get a reward, he decides to return it. At the President's office he meets a young secretary who he has sex with, only to find out she's sixteen. He runs out of her room only to be attacked by a Cowboy who wants to know what his angle in all this is. 'The Scoop' is about Jeff trying to find out what the answer to this big mystery is. He must also deal with a budding relationship with a girl named April, the antics of his insensitive best friend, and a room mate from hell in this character driven comedy/mystery. In the funeral of the famous British journalist Joe Strombel, his colleagues and friends recall how obstinate he was while seeking for a scoop. Meanwhile the deceased Joe discloses the identity of the tarot card serial killer of London. He cheats the Reaper and appears to the American student of journalism Sondra Pransky, who is on the stage in the middle of a magic show of the magician Sidney Waterman in London, and tells her that the murderer is the aristocrat Peter Lyman. Sondra drags Sid in her investigation, seeking for evidences that Peter is the killer. However, she falls in love with him and questions if Joe Strombel is right in his scoop. A young journalist student, Sondra Pransky, travels from America to England to interview a famous actor. After the not-so-complete interview her friend and she go to a magic show. When selected to take part in one of the acts Sondra is contacted by a recently deceased famous journalist who is determined to give her his last scoop. He tells her that the son of Lord Lyman, Peter Lyman, is the tarot card killer. Dragging along Sid Waterman, a kooky magician, Sondra attempts to discover who Peter Lyman really is and if he is a killer.
