Sarkar Raj is the planned sequel to Sarkar (2005). While Sarkar was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's film The Godfather, the sequel will be completely original. The film will star Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. This will be the first time the three actors will be seen acting together in a film where they all have defined and substantial roles.
Cinematographer Amit Roy reveals that Sarkar Raj will have a distinct and different look than the original film. Roy claims Sarkar Raj will have a much more lush texture. Sarkar Raj was filmed at the Ramoji Film City studios in Hyderabad. However the cast and crew also filmed outdoor scenes in Mumbai as well. Sarkar Raj will be distributed by Adlabs distribution films. Filming with the principle cast was finished in August 2007.
Ram Gopal Varma states that besides the mafia backdrop, the film is a character driven drama with a socio-political plot in the vein of The Godfather trilogy. He also states it's a film about the triumph of the human spirit and a father-son relationship.
Sarkar Raj will be released sometime in May or June 2008.
