For the college basketball player, see Ryan Mendez (basketball player)
Ryan Mendez is the lead guitarist in the alternative rock band Yellowcard. His band mates refer to him as Mendez, probably to avoid confusion with Ryan Key, the band's vocalist/guitarist.
Mendez had been a member of the now defunct band, Staring Back. He joined Yellowcard shortly after recording the album, Lights and Sounds, when lead guitarist and founding member Ben Harper left the band to focus on his record label Takeover Records.
He has appeared in three of the group's music videos: Lights and Sounds, Rough Landing, Holly, and Light Up the Sky. Mendez took part in the writing process for the band's latest album Paper Walls.
Ryan Mendez played basketball at Stanford University from 1996-2001. He set a Pac-10 record for most consecutive free throws (49) made during the 2000-01 season. Luke Ridnour of Oregon broke that record in 2003 with 62.
Other places in the Stanford and Pac-10 record books:
Category No./pct. Rank Career 3-pt. pct. 178/424 (.420) 7th at Stanford Career FT pct. 186/214 (.869) 4th in Pac-10, 2nd at Stanford
Mendez also led the Pac-10 in free-throw percentage during the 1999-2000 (63/72, .875) and 2000-01 (94/101, .931) seasons. He led Stanford in 3-point shooting percentage in 1996-97 (29/68, .427) and the Pac-10 in 1997-98 (45/95, .474).
