Roy Huggins (July 18, 1914 - April 3, 2002) was a novelist and an influential writer/creator and producer of humorous, character-driven US television series, including Maverick and The Rockford Files. Shows he was involved in typically featured misfits and rascals rather than conventional heroes.
Children from first marriage: Katherine Crawford and Bret children from second marriage: John, Thomas and James.
His writing pseudonym, John Thomas James, is a composite of the names of his three sons with second wife Adele Mara.
He graduated summa cum laude from UCLA.
He wrote about 350 scripts for television and film.
Brother-in-law of Luis Delgado (I).
The short stories and one novel that Huggins published in the 1940s provided the source material for three of the television series he created: '77 Sunset Strip', The Rockford Files, and City of Angels.
Stu Bailey, the main character on '77 Sunset Strip', originally appeared in Huggins's novel "The Double Take" (1946).
