Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier (born July 14, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York) is an African-American actor, Christian minister, and former professional football player. After his sports career ended he worked as a bodyguard and was present at the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
Rosey Grier's intrests include serious pursuit of nontraditional hobbies such as macrame and needlepoint. He authored the book Rosey Grier's Needlepoint for Men in 1973.
Former star player with the Los Angeles Rams during the 1960s, this impressively built African American athlete broke into acting via appearances in TV shows including "Man from U.N.C.L.E., The" (1964), "Wild Wild West, The" (1965) and "I Dream of Jeannie" (1965). Grier received positive reviews for his role in the TV movie Desperate Mission, The (1969) (TV) and then landed a recurring role alongside Fess Parker (I) in the hugely popular children's TV series _"Daniel Boone"_(1964)_. This led to a short-lived stint as host of his own variety show "Rosey Grier Show, The" (1969) which only ran the one season. He kept busy with work in other TV shows and appeared in several feature films including Skyjacked (1972), Thing with Two Heads, The (1972) and Timber Tramps (1975). He continued to turn up in a handful of minor roles throughout the 1970s, but arguably did not possess the acting skill of other prominent African American athletes turned actors such as Fred Williamson, Jim Brown (I) and Jim Kelly (II). He became an ordained minister in 1983, and has continued to champion the causes of those less fortunate, and to guide inner city teens from poor backgrounds.
