This was the first live stereo worldwide satellite transmission of a television show. Originating at the Forum in Los Angeles, with a live crowd of about 15,000 people, it was fed to networks in several countries. Interestingly, it was also fed live to a large theater in London, where a sold out audience saw it on a giant video screen at 4:00am.

Dick Clark hosted - or rather introduced - the event. Kim Carnes was also a guest star.
