Robert Lindsay Stevenson (born 13 December 1949, Ilkeston) is an award-winning English actor best known for his role as Ben Harper in the British television series My Family.
Robert Alexander Lindsay (April 18, 1890 - October 21, 1958) was a British athlete, winner of gold medal in 4x400 m relay at the 1920 Summer Olympics.
Born in Battersea, London, Robert Lindsay won the British AAA 440 yd championships in 1921.
At the Antwerp Olympics, Lindsay reached to the quarterfinals of 400 m and ran the second leg in the British 4x400 m relay team, which took gold with 3.22.2.
Robert Lindsay (c 1735 - 1801) was an American politician who was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly of 1777.
Robert Lindsay was the son of John Lindsay, but there are conflicting accounts as to their background and Robert's early life. One account says he was born c. 1735. He may have been born in Virginia or Ireland. He was descended from the ancient and illustrious Clan Lindsay of Scotland. Evidently, he lived for a time on the Pennsylvania/Maryland border area before coming to North Carolina in the mid 1700s. His name first appears in the North Carolina records in 1763. He died in 1801.
Lindsay established a 2,000 acre (8 km²) plantation on Deep River in what later became Guilford County. In fact, when the county was formed in 1771, and until a court house could be built in 1774, the county court met in the "great hall" of his plantation home. The property included an ordinary (an inn/tavern), formal gardens, a mulberry grove for raising silk worms, a silk mill, a grist mill, and a store. A fragment of the original house remains.
Robert Lindsay was a Captain in the North Carolina Militia. He served in the first independent North Carolina Legislature from 1777 to 1778, and was presiding Judge of Guilford County from 1781 to 1788. He was a well known and respected member of his community, and his descendants were prominent in the history of North Carolina.
Robert married twice:
Lives with Rosemarie Ford in Buckinghamshire; the couple have two sons, Samuel, born 18 November 1999 and James Lindsay Stevenson, born 8 April 2003. They married in a civil ceremony on New Year's Eve 2006.
Had a fifteen-year relationship with Diana Weston , which foundered in 1994. One daughter, Sydney Stevenson from this relationship.
Named as one of twelve "Outstanding New Actors of 1989" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 41.
Best known for his singing, dancing and affable clowning, Robert is a heavyweight Shakespearean having performed, among many others, Hamlet and Richard III on stage, and Lysander in Midsummer Night's Dream, A (1981/I) (TV) on TV.
Robert was ushered to Hollywood via the Tony Award-winning success of "Me and My Girl". The movie Bert Rigby, You're a Fool (1989) was specifically designed to showcase his delightful song-and-dance talents and show-off his charm and magnetism that scored so well with audiences, but the story was rather soporific and the film, after receiving mediocre reviews, took a nosedive at the box office.
Starred with first wife Cheryl Hall (I) in one of his popular 70s series "Citizen Smith" (1977). They divorced after six years.
When Robert Played Wolfie in "Citizen Smith" (1977), his favourite War Cry was "Power to the people!".
He was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 1986 (1985 season) for Best Actor in a Musical for "Me and My Girl".
He was awarded the 1997 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actor in a Musical of the 1996 season for his performance in Oliver! at the London Palladium.
