A home remedy is a treatment to cure a disease or ailment that employs certain spices, vegetables, or other common items. Home remedies may or may not have medicinal properties that treat or cure the disease or ailment in question, as they are typically passed along by laypersons (which has been facilitated in recent years by the Internet). Many are merely used as a result of tradition or habit or because they are effective in inducing the placebo effect. A significant number, however, have been demonstrated to effectively treat ailments such as sprains, minor lacerations, headaches, fevers, and even the common cold.
One of the more popular examples of a home remedy is the use of chicken soup to treat respiratory infections such as a cold or mild flu, and according to recent studies, this may actually be effective. Other examples of medically successful home remedies include willow bark tea to cure headaches and fevers (willow bark contains a form of acetylsalicylic acid, also known as aspirin); duct tape to help with setting broken bones; and duct tape or superglue to treat plantar warts; and Kogel mogel to treat sore throat.
In earlier times mothers were entrusted with all but serious remedies. Historic cookbooks are frequently full of remedies for dyspepsia, fevers, and female complaints.
Many European liqueurs or digestifs were originally medicinal remedies. In Chinese folk medicine, medicinal congees (long cooked rice soups with herbs), foods, and soups are part of the healing repertoire.
A common error is to confuse home remedies with homeopathic remedies. In fact, the two concepts are unrelated.
"The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" is the first single released by Jason Mraz from his debut album Waiting for My Rocket to Come in 2002. The song is about a friend of Jason's being struck with cancer and how it changed Jason's outlook on life. Occasionally, while performing this song during his shows, Jason would include a singalong with the audience to Oasis's "Wonderwall". This song has been his biggest hit so far, reaching #15 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
"Remedy" is a song by post grunge/metal band Seether. It is the second track on their album Karma and Effect. The lyrics are supposed to be about rehabilitation after drug abuse and the struggle that was suffered by every member of the band . . The music video has the band playing with Shaun Morgan dressed up in carnival clothes. There are also scenes of a group of people experiencing "the world's most terrifying ride". Amy Lee, Shaun's girlfriend in this era, appears in the video.
On the single for "Remedy", it includes this song as well as the live acoustic and video versions. It also includes a bonus song not on their other CDs known as "Let Me Go."
It also served as the theme song for WWE's pay-per-view Summerslam 2005.
An unplugged version of "Remedy" was released on the bands live acoustic album, One Cold Night.
