Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag is a remake of India's biggest hit, the 1975 film Sholay. This film was released on August 31, 2007. This film was previously known as Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay but due to Ram Gopal Varma's infringement of Sippy's trademark and copyright, the Delhi High Court ordered the name change (along with character names).
The film was one of the biggest flops in Indian cinema, lasting only two weeks in Indian theaters with majority of audiences leaving the film during its "intermission" break.
The movie's working title is "Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay"
Katrina Kaif was signed first for the role of Radha. However, upon writing the script, Ram Gopal Varma rewrote the role of Radha into a deviation named Devi. Katrina felt she was unable to act the role, and Ram Gopal Varma felt that Sushmita Sen fit the role better.
Abhishek Bachchan was attached to play the role of "Veeru", but dropped out and the role went to Ajay Devgan. Abhishek is now playing the Gypsy Singer during the Mehbooba song.
It took 50 trials before Amitabh Bachchan decided upon a light brown colored soft contact lens for the left eye and blue for the right (applied each morning by his family's eye surgeon, Dr Himanshu Mehta).
