Rachael Domenica Ray (born August 25, 1968 in Glens Falls, New York ) is a two-time Emmy-nominated television personality and author. She hosts the syndicated talk/lifestyle program Rachael Ray and two Food Network series, 30 Minute Meals and Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels. Ray has also written a series of cookbooks based on the 30 Minute Meals concept, and launched a magazine, Every Day with Rachael Ray, in 2005.
Prior to the launch of her talk show, Ray hosted three other Food Network shows, 30 Minute Meals, $40 a Day, and Inside Dish.
Rachael Ray, also known as The Rachael Ray Show, is a talk show starring Rachael Ray that debuted in syndication in the United States and Canada on September 18, 2006. The hour-long daytime program is co-produced by Ray and Oprah Winfrey through her Harpo Productions and distributed domestically and globally by CBS Television Distribution.
The second season premiered on September 10, 2007. Rachael Ray is the only one of the four syndicated daytime talk shows that premiered for the 2006-07 season to be renewed.
The concept behind this program is expected to focus on more than just her culinary skills and offer a lot of other topics, stories, and ideas, along the lines of Winfrey's show. According to Ray, "People know me for my love of food, but I have so much more I want to share." The set has the audience is seated on a large turntable that rotates so that the audience can always see the "action" on the circular stage that surrounds them.
The show is filmed at EUE/Screen Gems. On March 9, 2007, Entertainment Tonight revealed that the show's theme music was written and recorded by Rachael's husband, John Cusimano. The show averages about 2.6 million views daily, making it one of the highest viewed daytime shows. It was revealed, not long after it debuted, that The Rachael Ray Show was renewed through 2010 adding 2 years to the already 2 years it had received.
The theme song to the show is performed by The Neville Brothers. Their song has the same rhythm as their classic hit Yellow Moon, but with different lyrics. Aaron Neville sings the song.
Rachael keeps a large punching bag machine and invites all of her male guests to see how strong they are. As of January 2007, the all-time high scorer was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who beat the previous title holder, Dean Cain.
Lives in the Adirondacks with her dog, a cat and two fishes. Has a brother named Emmanuel (Manny) and a sister named Maria. Moved to upstate New York when she was in first grade. Her family owned several restaurants called the Carvery, in and around Falmouth and Mashpee, Massachusetts. After college, she began work as candy manager at Macy's Marketplace in New York. She was promoted to the fresh food section, then became a chef and buyer at a gourmet store. She moved out of the City and, while working in a shop in Albany, she held cooking lessons in the store, which caught the attention of a local television station, and became "30 Minute Meals" (2002) segments. She has authored several cookbooks including "Rachael Ray's 30-Minute Meals" and "The Open House Cookbook". She garnered national attention from a segment on the "Today" (1952) show during a blizzard.
