"Photograph" is a song written by Ringo Starr and George Harrison. It was released by Starr as a single in October 1973, reaching number eight and number one in the UK and U.S. singles charts, respectively. It can also be heard on the Ringo album and several compilation and live albums.
"Photograph" is a single released by the Canadian band Nickelback, the first from their fifth studio album, All the Right Reasons (2005). Due to the success of "Rockstar" in the UK, "Photograph" will be re-released on 3 March, 2008 .
Presumably, its lyrics look back at the adolescence of frontman Chad Kroeger, who was responsible for writing the song. The single became the band's third top ten hit in the United States, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Photograph" has sold over 1.4 million digital downloads in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan, though it is certified as 2x Platinum by the RIAA, since Roadrunner Records has not yet requested and paid for an updated certification. The song also topped the Billboard Pop 100 chart.
The single was also a huge success on the Canadian charts, peaking at #1 and staying there for 7 weeks.
The song is an up-tempo track reminiscent of country music. The music video for the song was filmed in Hanna, Alberta, Canada, hometown to the majority of the band.
In 2007, "Photograph" was covered by The Chordials, an a cappella group at Cornell University. In that same year "Photograph" was voted the fifth most annoying song of all time in a Rolling Stone poll. http://www.rediff.com/movies/2007/jul/03songs.htm
In 2008, the single is once again showing on future single release lists in the UK. The single is possibly being re-released on 3rd March 2008 to capitalise on the success of "Rockstar".
"Photograph" is the third and final single from Weezer's self-titled third album. "Photograph" was actually released as the first single off the album in Japan instead of "Hash Pipe." The song enjoyed only modest success on the radio, peaking at #17 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The music video for the song is notable for being directed by Weezer.com webmaster and longtime friend of the band Karl Koch. It consists of footage shot while the band was touring for The Green Album. Among the notable footage is Rivers Cuomo playing soccer, Brian Bell attempting to skateboard and juggle (not at the same time), Patrick Wilson riding a Razor Scooter, a brief clip of the duo from Tenacious D running onstage during a Weezer show and a scene with Rivers playing a prank on new bassist Scott Shriner. Interestingly enough, although Mikey Welsh plays bass and sings backup vocals on the studio recording, Shriner is in the video, as Welsh had left the band at that point. During the very end of the video, when Cuomo is playing the prank on Shriner, a demo of "Death & Destruction" can be heard in the background. This song would later surface on the band's next album Maladroit. The video is featured on Video Capture Device, the band's DVD.
During many live shows in 2005, the band would close out their first set by having Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson take lead vocals and guitar on "Photograph" while Rivers played drums.
"Photograph" is one of the most famous songs and 1983 single by British hard rock band Def Leppard from their multi-platinum album Pyromania. It was written for the late Marilyn Monroe, as Joe Elliott often stated before playing the song live in concerts. When released as a single later that year, it reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and #12 on Pop Singles. More recently, the song was used in promotional ads for the DVD release of Blades of Glory.
Before the song starts a click created by guitarist Steve Clark accidentally catching the A string of his guitar can be heard.
