Peter Bernard Wight (born June 25, 1930) is a former Guyanan first class cricketer who played for Somerset in England. His brother, Leslie Wight, and cousin, Vibart Wight, both played Test cricket for the West Indies. Wight was a profilic run scorer for Somerset, only Harold Gimblett has scored more runs for the county in their history.
Wight came to England at the age of 20, arriving on a cargo boat in 1951 with the intention of studying engineering. He however missed his exams because his employer didn't release him.
In 1953, he was playing in the Lancashire League when his brother in law suggested he try out for Somerset. He impressed in the nets and was selected to play in trial game, against the touring Australians. A shaky start saw him dismissed for a duck but he scored a century in the second innings and was offered a Somerset contract. He passed the 2000 run mark in 1960 and 1962. When he was released by Somerset in 1965 he had scored 16965 runs for the county.http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Records/England/Firstclass/Somerset/Batting_Records/Most_Career_Runs.html
