Peter Strauss (born February 20, 1947) is an American television and movie actor, perhaps best known for his roles in several television miniseries in the 1970s. He won an Emmy Award for his role on the 1979 made-for-television movie The Jericho Mile. His other noted television miniseries credits include roles in Rich Man, Poor Man, the sequel Rich Man, Poor Man Book II, and Masada.

He also starred in the films Soldier Blue (1970) and Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone (1983), and has appeared in several others. He voiced the character of Justin, Captain of the Guard, in the 1982 animated film The Secret of NIMH, alongside the late Elizabeth Hartman and the late Paul Shenar, and subsequently named his son Justin, for the character. A more recent film is XXX: State of the Union (2005). He also has appeared in commercials for Miracle-Gro. He was the voice of Moses in the animated series K10C: Kids' Ten Commandments. He married the actress Rachel Ticotin on December 31, 1998.

Strauss also runs a successful citrus production business and is on the advisory board of the Los Angeles Arboretum. He sold a ranch property to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. The ranch has since been acquired by the National Park Service as the Peter Strauss Ranch.

Peter Strauss is well known for his long list of starring roles in made-for-TV films, including Jericho Mile, The (1979) (TV), for which he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Special. Strauss has also received Emmy Award nominations for his roles in the mini-series "Rich Man, Poor Man" (1976) (mini) and "Masada" (1981) (mini), as well as five Golden Globe Nominations. Strauss was born in New York City and grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, where he was introduced to the theatre via the Croton Shakespeare Festival. His summers were spent with stock companies including the Pocono Playhouse in Pennsylvania and Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. He attended the Hackley School for Boys in Tarrytown, New York and graduated from Northwestern University in 1969, committed to an acting career. He made his Broadway debut in Tom Griffin (I)'s "Einstein and the Polar Bear" in 1981. His other theatrical credits include the plays "The Dance Next Door", "The Mind with the Dirty Man" and "The Trial of the Catonsville Nine" at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and "A Cry of Players" at Baltimore's Centre Stage. His latest mini-series appearances were Seasons of Love (1999) (TV), with Rachel Ward (I) and Hume Cronyn, (which he executive-produced) and as La Hire in the CBS four-hour mini-series Joan of Arc (2005) (TV). Strauss starred for one season in the CBS drama series "Moloney" (1996) and the PAX drama series "Body & Soul" (2002). He has just completed co-starring as the President of the US in Revolution/Columbia's xXx: State of the Union (2005) for director Lee Tamahori. He recently starred in New York runs of Jon Robin Baitz's new political thriller "Chinese Friends" at Playwrights Horizon Theatre and "Sabina" at Primary Stages. Strauss is married to actress Rachel Ticotin and lives in Ojai, California, where he also operates a commercial citrus enterprise that produces 400 tons of citrus per year.
