Peter Green (born Peter Allen Greenbaum, 29 October 1946, in Bethnal Green, London) is a British blues-rock guitarist and founder of the band Fleetwood Mac.
A figurehead in the British blues movement, Green inspired B. B. King to say, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats." Green's playing was marked with a distinctive vibrato and economy of style, as well as a unique tone from his 1959 Gibson Les Paul. - a result of the guitar's neck pickup magnet being reversed to produce an 'out of phase' sound. He used a Fender Stratocaster on the track Albatross, and used a National resonator guitar on Oh Well Part I.
Peter Green (born 1924) is a British classical scholar noted for his Alexander to Actium, a general account of the Hellenistic Age, and other works. He is also the author of a vivid, and extremely funny, translation blank">http://www.frontlist.com/detail/0140441948 of the Satires of the Roman poet Juvenal .
After _World War II service in Burma, he attended Trinity College of Cambridge University. He subsequently wrote historical novels and worked as a journalist. In 1963 he and his family moved to the Greek island of Lesbos, where he was a translator, and then to Athens, where he was recruited to teach classics for the College Year in Athens.
Green taught in Athens from 1966 to 1971, and at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is a Dougherty Centennial Professor Emeritus of Classics. He is now an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa. Green also has a visiting professorship at East Carolina University.
Peter Green is a PR person for several Australasian acts, most notably Skyhooks, Bic Runga, Split Enz and their alumni, including Crowded House, The Finn Brothers, Neil Finn, Tim Finn, etc. He is president of the "Frenz of The Enz" fanclub, encompassing all the Enz alumni, which has also been known as the Crowded House club, but which reverted to its original name following the break-up of the latter. He is held in very high regard by fan-club members, who greatly appreciate the personal touch he brings his work, and his remarkable commitment, not only to the musicians, but also to the fans, maintaining a consistent relationship with them, whether there is artist activity or not. The Frenz of the Enz are known for their long-standing loyalty and commitment to the bands and artists under the Frenz umbrella, and it could be argued that it is largely as a result of Peter Green's work, ensuring that the fans always feel connected to what is going on.
Peter Green FRS is a British Bayesian statistician. He holds a chair in Statistics at Bristol University. He is distinguished for his contributions to computational statistics, in particular his contributions to spatial statistics and semi-parametric regression models and also his development of reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2003.
