Perfect is a 1985 American feature film, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and John Travolta. The film was based on a series of articles that appeared in Rolling Stone magazine in the late 1970s, chronicling the atmosphere at Los Angeles health clubs.
The girl too perfect to be real.
Like an earlier John Travolta film Saturday Night Fever (1977), the script was based on a magazine article.
Star Jamie Lee Curtis worked out constantly during filming and only ate one meal a day.
Jamie Lee Curtis trained for several months before shooting began. All the scenes that show her leading classes were filmed first, with the narrative and dramatic sequences shot next. The last sequence filmed was the closing credits workout. It is noticeable that Curtis had lost 10 pounds of muscle since the workout scenes had been filmed. She also filmed a music video with Jermaine Jackson (I) to promote the movie.
Based on the famous Sports Club LA (a giant up-scale athletic facility in West Los Angeles that also contains a restaurant and bar), which was known in the late 1970s and 1980s for its singles scene.
The newspaper photo of Jamie Lee Curtis's character with her swim coach is from Love Letters (1984).
Average Shot Length = ~8.3 seconds. Median Shot Length = ~8.2 seconds.
A thriller/love story set in a perfect world: the film opens a brief window into the relationship between two lovers. Tension builds and their dark secret is exposed but, however twisted or shocking, 'Perfect' uncovers the very human drama of what it is to love and be loved. Written by Dazed Film & TV [gb]
