Paul Mantee (born January 9, 1931 in San Francisco, California), born Paul Marianetti, is a TV and movie actor. He made a great number of guest appearances in well-known television shows and starred in a handful of films, including a cult classic, Robinson Crusoe on Mars. A beautifully restored letterboxed version of "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" was released on 2007 by The Criterion Collection. Amazingly for 1964, the very buff Mr. Mantee appears completely nude and in a nude-tone swim suit in one of the film's scenes.
He is married to actress Ann Newman-Mantee.
Born in San Francisco, Paul Mantee started "pretending" when he was very young, playing at being people like Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney and others "until it almost seemed logical that I would finally get my ass into the acting business". He toiled Anonymously in the Hollywood vineyards for several years; it was this initial LACK of success which worked in his favor when "an unfamiliar face" was sought for Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964). Most famous for his role in this 1964 sci-fi adventure, Mantee has in more recent years begun writing magazine articles and novels.
