Patrick Muldoon (born William Patrick Muldoon III on September 27, 1968 in San Pedro, California) is an American actor.
He was born to an Irish-American father and a Croatian-born mother. He attended Loyola High School, a Jesuit school, and graduated in 1991 from the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and played football for the USC Trojans.
Muldoon was the first actor to play the role of Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, a role which he played from 1992 to 1995. He had a role in the popular teen television show "Saved By The Bell" in 1991. His next big role was as the evil Richard Hart on the primetime soap opera, Melrose Place from 1995 to 1996. He previously dated Denise Richards, with whom he co-starred in the sci-fi/thriller Starship Troopers'. Played Edmund in the Patsy Rodenburg of the Royal National Theatre of London production of King Lear.
He is the lead singer for the rock band, The Sleeping Masses.
Patrick was born to parents of Croatian and Irish descent and grew up in the Los Angeles waterfront district of San Pedro. Patrick's father, being a lifeguard, put him on the beach for much of the first part of his life, enjoying the ocean and everything that went with it. Mother and father both with artistic backgrounds in painting, writing and music induced the same appetites in their son as well as athletics. He played college football for the U.S.C. Trojans. After appearing in the Men of U.S.C. calendar, he was approached by Calvin Klein and accepted the offer to strike a few poses in their jeans campaigns. He later decided modeling really wasn't for him. His girlfriend suggested he try acting, and after his first day in his acting class, he knew he had found what he wanted to do. Early in his career he appeared on "Who's the Boss?" (1984) with Tony Danza and "Silk Stalkings" (1991) with Rob Estes which lead to "Days of Our Lives" (1965) and the role of Austin Reed. Patrick won the Soap Opera Digest award for best new actor and spent the next three years at NBC. As his contract was coming to an end, he opted not to renew. Being one of the most visible faces from the soaps, he caught the attention of Spelling Entertainment, which led to a season on "Melrose Place" (1992). His next big break was landing the part of Zander Barkalow in Paul Verhoeven (I)'s Starship Troopers (1997). Since then, he's appeared in a host of independent films including the Sundance contestant Wicked (1998) with Julia Stiles, and Frank Darabont's Black Cat Run (1998) (TV). In his free time Patrick is proud to be a student of the great Susan Batson (I), trying to get his next belt in Krav Maga, and appearing with the band Sleeping Masses. His secret love is writing music.
