A feather is carried by the wind and falls through a lattice. A man, big glasses, is waiting for the subway to arrive and gets in. It's an ordinary subway. People are just waiting for the train to stop at their destination. They are estranged people, torchbearers of an individualistic society. No one is talking, everything that breaks the silence is a possible nuisance. The feather falls on the head of the man. A feather that will have major consequences, but for how long? The license plates used in the film feature the slogan "Beautiful Evergreen State", a combination of the license plate slogan of British Columbia ("Beautiful British Columbia", where the movie was filmed), and the state nickname of Washington State (The Evergreen State).
Late night, Edsel sits alone waiting in his van until a couple begs for a ride to a nearby hospital. With pregnant Rita in pain and Miguel pleading, Edsel reluctantly gives in not knowing the consequences of his decision. A short trip becomes a headache as he dodges accidents and garbage bins while the incessant arguing of the dysfunctional couple tests his patience. After he kicks the couple out and drives away, his conscience gets the best of him. He takes them back in. At the hospital, a cold heart warms when Edsel receives a gift from grateful father-to-be Miguel. Later that evening, parked back in his spot, Edsel again sits alone. An alarm clock goes off revealing his original intentions. Written by Manny Barredo
