"Overprotected" is a dance-pop song by American pop singer Britney Spears released from the album Britney. It was the second single released during the first quarter of 2002 internationally released in Europe, and third single released in the U.S. in 2002.
The song is another product of the pop songwriting and producing team made up of Max Martin and Rami, though the "Darkchild Remix" version of the song was produced by Rodney Jerkins. The single was released in its original state internationally in Europe, but as the "Darkchild Remix" in the U.S. Thus, there were two different music videos released to promote the song. Britney declares in the song that she is "overprotected" and explains to the world that she cannot find out who she is, where she needs to go and what she needs to do if she is restricted from certain experiences.
In 2003, Spears was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the song but lost to Norah Jones's "Don't Know Why".
