Over My Dead Body is a detective drama which was aired in the United States on the CBS television network as part of its 1990 fall lineup.
Over My Dead Body starred Edward Woodward as Maxwell Beckett, an aging mystery novelist whose three successful early novels were starting to be overshadowed by the reputation his two most recent works had developed as being "bombs." He was approached by young, struggling reporter Nikki Page (Jessica Lundy), who came to him for help after witnessing a murder through her window and because he was her favorite author. After they solved this mystery, they became fast friends and began to work together in the "amateur sleuth" tradition to solve crimes.
Over My Dead Body was produced by William Link, the man responsible for Murder, She Wrote, but while it shared the theme of an aging mystery writer as an amateur sleuth in real life, it shared none of the earlier program's success. It was cancelled after a run of less than three months, although a few episodes were aired in June 1991.
A former Scotland Yard inspector (Edward Woodward) now living in LA is pestered by a fan (Jessica Lundy) to investigate a murder she claims has occurred but that the police dismiss as there is no evidence of the crime. Written by John Sacksteder
Jason Cordry is a none-too-bright mystery writer with a big failing: he can't think up solutions to his plots. When he accidentally frames himself for murder, he realizes he hasn't got a solution to this story either. Written by Jim Beaver
The problem with the mystery stories concocted by Jason Cord (Milton Berle) is that he can never figure out who's guilty. Stuck, as usual, he takes his latest unfinished "who-dunit" to the office of his wife, Patricia Cord (Mary Beth Hughes), whose boss, Brennan (Reginald Denny), doesn't know she is married. Hidden in a closet, Jason overhears Brennan and his partners discussing a situation which exactly parallels his new story. He steps out when the discussion reaches the point of his story's current progress and, seeing a chance of finding an ending to his story, offers to make a suicide look like a murder. He soon finds himself the central figure in a front-page murder trial before he proves the supposed suicide to have been an actual murder - committed by one of the victim's partners. Maxwell Beckett worked for Scotland Yard as a researcher. Today is an author of mystery novels living in San Francisco. Somehow everyone believes that he was an Inspector, so that's what they call him. And it seems that he has been going through a slump. It seems that his books don't have the same spark that they had before. While he struggles to regain his form, Nikki Page a reporter, who is assigned to do mundane jobs, would like to be taken seriously. So, whenever there's a mystery, she turns to Max to help in solving it, thinking it would make a good story. Max thinks Nikki's a nuisance, but hoping that their snooping around would be good material for his next novel goes along. Written by
