One Night in the Tropics is a 1940 comedy film noteworthy for being the film debut of Abbott and Costello. The team play minor roles but steal the picture with five classic routines, including an abbreviated version of "Who's On First?" Their work earned them a two-picture deal with Universal, and their next film, Buck Privates, made them bonafide movie stars.
Originally titled "Caribbean Holiday."
Abbott and Costello's first feature film. They were not the top-billed stars of the movie; this was just a routine Universal B-movie musical with contract players in the cast.
Abbott and Costello were big radio stars when they made this, their debut film. Their voices are heard before they appear on screen.
When Realart reissued this picture in the late 1940s, some 20 minutes were cut at the expense of the plot to give Abbott and Costello proportionately more screen time.
