The Nebraska Cornhuskers (often abbreviated to Huskers) is the name given to several sports teams of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The university is a member of the Big 12 Conference and competes in NCAA Division I, fielding 21 varsity teams in 14 sports:

Early nicknames for the university's athletic teams included the "Hawkeyes" (which is now associated with the University of Iowa), the "Antelopes" (which the University of Nebraska at Kearney later adopted), the "Old Gold Knights", the "Bugeaters" and the "Mankilling Mastodons"; the usage of "Cornhuskers" (Taken by Nebraska after Iowa University had dropped it) in favor of all others occurred around 1900.OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=2802" target="_blank">http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=2802
The Cornhuskers have two official mascots, _Herbie Husker and Lil' Red.
The Cornhuskers participate in all sponsor events in the Big 12 except for men's swimming and diving. In addition the Huskers play in three non-sponsor Big 12 events, Rifle, Bowling and Men's gym. Men's Gym is in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Rifle is in the GARC and Bowling is independent.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in college football. The program has established itself as a traditional powerhouse, and has the fourth-most all-time victories of any NCAA Division I-A team. The Cornhuskers are currently in their 117th season and hold an all-time record of 808-334-40. On October 14, 2006, with a 21-3 win over the Kansas State Wildcats, Nebraska became only the 4th program in NCAA Division I-A history to win 800 games. The Cornhuskers are the winningest college football program of the last 50 years, both by winning percentage and number of wins.
The Cornhuskers' three national championships in Division I collegiate football over the past 25 years are the second most of any university. They have five all time.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in college basketball. The program saw its first game in 1896 playing 7-on-7 basketball. The first collegiate game was against Nebraska Wesleyan University. At the end of the 2006-07 season the program had 1,315 wins and 1,176 losses with 6 NCAA appearances and 14 NIT appearances.
