Murder Call was an Australian television series, created by Hal McElroy for the Southern Star Entertainment and seen on the Nine Network between 1997 and 2000. The idea to the series was born by the books of Tessa Vance by Jennifer Rowe: Suspect/Deadline and Something Wicked. Both books were integrated as episodes in the TV series.
With a young high-tech '90's feel and just a touch of 40's retro charm, 'Murder Call' follows a classic clue - puzzle plot, combining mystery, action and suspense, spiked with humour, romance and a touch of the bizarre.
The series dealt with the cases confronted by an unconventional team of homicide detectives, Tessa Vance and Steve Hayden. Backing them up was:
Murder Call was filmed in Sydney and unlike a lot of shows based in Sydney, often shot the less spectacular side of the city.
t. Steve Hayden: [after being locked in a cool room] I never thought we'd end up like this, Tess. Of course, you realise I wouldn't do this for Thorne. t. Tessa Vance: Me either.
t. Steve Hayden: Maybe he's a drag queen ... or a rock star. Mick Jagger wears makeup ... he looks dead.
t. Steve Hayden: How do you do that? t. Tessa Vance: What? t. Steve Hayden: Put on that little smile of yours and get your own way?
. Imogene 'Tootsie' Soamses: [to Tessa] Just because you and Steve work well together, don't expect anyone else to appreciate it. If Thorne thinks his rationalisation of assets is working, he'll have you all flying solo.
