"Mistake" is a pop rock song by Stephanie McIntosh, which was released as the first single from her debut album Tightrope on July 29, 2006.
"Mistake" was written by Tom Nichols (who has also written material for artists such as Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, and Kylie Minogue) and Rami and Arnthor (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC) and produced by the team at Maratone (Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears) and Mixed by Niklas Flycht (Britney Spears). The original title for "Mistake" was "Another Mistake". The song is well known for Stephanie's use of a high pitched note during the chorus.
"Mistake" was released as the debut single from Tightrope in the UK and Ireland, where it was released on June 25, 2007 with McIntosh promoting the album there in June 2007. In its first week on the chart, "Mistake" entered the UK Singles Chart at #168, on downloads alone. Then after its physical release, it jumped 121 places to #47. In Ireland, the song debuted at #54 upon its physical release. It is her strongest single in and outside of Australia to date, although it didn't reach the top 40 anywhere outside Australia.
"Mistake" is featured on the Australian version of the Bratz: Motion Picture Soundtrack. "Mistake" was also briefly used in two scenes in the Australian comedy show Summer Heights High.
"Mistake" is a single by musician Mike Oldfield, released in 1982 (see 1982 in music). It was not included on any Oldfield album in Europe until the compilation The Complete Mike Oldfield in 1985; however, it was included as an extra track on the North American release of the album Crises in 1983.
