Mission: Impossible is an American television series which aired on the CBS network from September 1966 to March 1973. It returned to television for two seasons on ABC, from 1988 to 1990 and later inspired a popular trio of theatrical motion pictures in the 1990s and 2000s.

The theme music, composed by Lalo Schifrin, is widely considered to be one of the most iconic television themes.

Mission: Impossible is an action movie released in 1996. It was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. The movie was the third highest grossing of the year. It is the first movie based on the television series Mission: Impossible and was followed by two sequels, Mission: Impossible II (2000) and Mission: Impossible III (2006).

Jim Phelps is the head of a super-secret government agency ("Impossible Missions"), and is often given secret anonymous covert missions to attempt; quite often they are unmasking of criminals or the rescuing of hostages. He picks his team depending on which tasks need to be done. The Impossible Missions Force is an elite group of agents chosen for their various abilities to infiltrate foreign governments as well as criminal organizations that are seen as threats to the security of the nation. Originally they were lead by Dan Briggs, but he was replaced by Jim Phelps after one year. Among its members are electronics executive Barney Collier, actor and master of disguise Rollin Hand, model Cinnamon Carter and strongman Willy Armitage. In later years Rollin leaves the team and is replaced by another master of disguise simply known as Paris and Cinnamon is replaced first by young Dana Lambert and then Lisa Casey. Based off of a hit T.V. series. Jim Phelps was sent to Prague for a mission. That mission is to find a traitor. His wife, Claire and his trusted partner, Ethan Hunt were members of Phelps' team. Unfortunately, something went horribly wrong and the mission failed, ironically Ethan Hunt was the lone survivor. After he reported the failed mission, Kettrige the head if the agency suspects Ethan of being the culprit for the failed mission. Now, Ethan uses unorthodox methods (Which includes the aid of an arms dealer going by the name "Max") to try to find who set him up and to clear his name. Written by John Wiggins

Movie based on the television series finds Jim Phelps and his team charged with stopping a traitor from stealing and selling classified material. Everything was going well until the man they are following and all of the team are inexplicably killed except for Ethan Hunt. Ethan then calls the Director and goes to meet him when he discovers that the whole mission was to ferret a mole that they have been suspicious of for some time. The Director shows evidence that hints that Ethan's the one they have been looking for but Ethan knows that he is not, so he escapes. Ethan then arranges to meet the buyer and whom he warns against using the material he has and when they meet he offers to get what he paid for in exchange for telling whom the mole is.
