Miguel Ángel Salgado Fernández (born October 22 1975 in As Neves, Galicia) is a Galician footballer, who currently plays in the right back position for Real Madrid of Spain. He is known for his combative tackling and attacking play.
He began his career in 1994, playing his hometown team, Celta de Vigo. In 1999, Salgado was signed by Real Madrid for €11,000,000. Salgado helped Real lift the Champions League trophy in both 2000 and 2002, as well as three La Liga titles and, in 2002, the Intercontinental Cup.
Salgado has been capped 53 times for Spain and was part of their Euro 2000 and 2006 FIFA World Cup squads, but missed out on the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Salgado is also part of the Galician team.
