Michael Carter (born June 29 1947) is a Scottish film and television actor.
He was born and raised in Dumfries, Scotland. Carter was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London. He made his film debut in An American Werewolf in London in 1981, although he is probably best known for his portrayal of Bib Fortuna in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (his voice was dubbed by Erik Bauersfeld). In 1984, he played The Ghost of Christmas Future in George C. Scott's TV movie version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. He also starred as the husband of Brenda Fricker and Josette Simon in the 1992 TV mini-series Seekers.
During his five week shoot on Return of the Jedi, it took nearly eight hours to apply his make-up, with an additional 25 minutes to remove it.
Michael D'Andrea Carter (born October 29, 1960 in Dallas, Texas), is a former U.S. Olympian track and field athlete and American pro football player.
Carter is best known in track and field for setting the national high school record of 81 feet 3½ inches in the 12 pound shot put, adding more than nine feet to the previous record. He set this mark at the 1979 Golden West Invitational track and field meet while competing for Jefferson High School of Dallas, Texas. No high school athlete has come within five feet of this record since. In 2004 this record was selected by USA Track and Field as the 16th greatest moment in American track and field over the previous quarter century, the only high school mark to make the top 25 greatest moments.
While attending Southern Methodist University, Carter won four indoor and three outdoor NCAA shot put championships. Additionally, he won the silver medal in the 1984 Olympic Games shot put.
A 6'2", 285-lb. nose tackle, Carter was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 1984 NFL Draft. As a professional American football player, he played his entire NFL career with the 49ers from 1984-1992. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time Super Bowl winner.
Carter is the only athlete to win an Olympic medal and a Super Bowl ring in the same year. His daughter, Michelle, won the 2006 NCAA outdoor shot put championship.
Trained at RADA.
He was cast as Bib Fortuna in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) after casting director Mary Selway saw him appearing in the play 'The Streets of London' in 1981. It took over eight hours of make-up to first transform him into the Twi'lek advisor. By the end of his five-week shoot, make-up artist Nick Dudman had streamlined the process down to 58 minutes. Removing the make-up took another 25 minutes.
Also a writer: he made his first foray into screenwriting (as co-scenarist with writer/director Sergio Toledo (II)) for the teleplay _One Man's War (1991)(TV)_.
