Michael Anthony Sobolewski (born June 20 1954) is an American musician. He is best known as the former bassist and a founding member of the hard rock band Van Halen. Anthony joined the band in 1974 and was their official recording and performing bassist for most of their career until he was replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen, son of fellow founding member Eddie Van Halen, after the band's 2004 tour.
Anthony is known for his stage antics, his effects-laden live solos, and his number of custom-made bass guitars including a Jack Daniel's model shaped like a whiskey bottle. He also has a signature Yamaha bass guitar series. In total, Anthony is known to have in excess of 150 bass guitars. In addition to his musical career with Van Halen and other acts, Anthony markets a line of hot sauces and related products named Mad Anthony.
Anthony has been married to his wife Sue since 1981 and they have two daughters: Taylor (born 1991) and Elisha (born 1985). Anthony now lives in Glendora, California and can be frequently seen driving his prized hot rods.
Michael Anthony, an eminent Caribbean author and historian, was born in Mayaro, Trinidad and Tobago on February 10, 1932 to Nathaniel Anthony and Eva Jones Lazarus. After an unsatisfying job as a young foundry worker in Pointe-à-Pierre for five years, he sought to become a journalist, but poems of his were first published by the Trinidad Guardian in 1953. Yet it was not enough for him to get a new job locally, and, reluctantly, Anthony agreed to further his career in the United Kingdom. His voyage as such aboard the Hildebrandt took place in December 1954.
In 1959, Anthony got married to his local girlfriend, Yvette Phillip (a poetess), after which they had four children—Keith, Jennifer, Carlos and Sandra.
Four years later, the author published his first book, The Games were Coming, a cycling story inspired by real events. Some time later, he followed up this success with The Year in San Fernando and Green Days by the River.
In all, Anthony has written over 20 titles in his four-decade career. Today he regularly frequents the local National Archives as part of his hard-working job. In 1979 he was awarded Hummingbird Medal (Gold) for his contributions to Literature.
Michael Parris, also known as Michael Anthony (born October 4, 1957 in Georgetown, Guyana) is a retired boxer from Guyana, who competed in the bantamweight (< 54 kg) division at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union. There he won the bronze medal, after being defeated by Cuba's Juan Hernández in the semifinals.
