Melanie Jayne Lynskey (b. May 16 1977 in New Plymouth, New Zealand) is an actress best known for starring in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures and for playing Rose on Two and a Half Men.
Making her bigscreen debut at sixteen beside a then-unknown Kate Winslet, New Zealand native Lynskey wowed critics and audiences with her explosive turn as a 1950s teenager who conspires with her best friend to carry out a scandalous crime, in Peter Jackson (I)'s award-winning Heavenly Creatures (1994). Despite a three-year hiatus spent completing school and relocating to the States, Lynskey made a welcome return to acting when she appeared as Anjelica Huston's daughter - and one of Drew Barrymore (I)'s stepsisters - in the acclaimed Ever After (1998), an epic retelling of the Cinderella story. She has since amassed an impressive body of film work, which includes notable roles in Detroit Rock City (1999), But I'm a Cheerleader (1999), Cherry Orchard, The (1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Snakeskin (2001), Abandon (2002), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Shattered Glass (2003), Park (2006) and Clint Eastwood's Oscar-nominated Flags of Our Fathers (2006). In addition, Lynskey - who resides in Los Angeles - has worked frequently on the smallscreen; her credits include Stephen King (I)'s "Rose Red" (2002) (mini) and "Shield, The" (2002), as well as a recurring stint opposite Charlie Sheen (I) on "Two and a Half Men" (2003), a principal role in "Drive" (2007) and a forthcoming appearance in "Comanche Moon" (2008) (mini).
