Mary Ellen Trainor (born July 8, 1950) is an American actress who may be best remembered as either Dr. Stephanie Woods in Lethal Weapon (and its three sequels) or as Harriet Walsh (Mikey and Brand's mom) in The Goonies. She also played Diane Evans on the TV series Roswell between 1999 and 2002.
Trainor was born in Chicago, Illinois. She frequently appears in the films of Richard Donner and Robert Zemeckis; the latter being her ex-husband, with whom she had a child, Alexander. Her other film credits include Romancing the Stone, The Monster Squad, Scrooged, Ghostbusters II, Back to the Future Part II, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, Congo, Anywhere But Here, Moonlight Mile and Freaky Friday.
Was once married to director Robert Zemeckis. Appeared in four of his films while they were married: Romancing the Stone (1984), Back to the Future Part II (1989), Death Becomes Her (1992) and Forrest Gump (1994).
Frequently cast in Richard Donner's films.

Appeared in two different movies - Die Hard (1988) and Ricochet (1991) - as the same news reporter, Gail Wallens. The character in Ricochet continually covered Denzel Washington's character, until the final scene when he shuts off the camera and tells Gail to kiss his ass. In Die Hard, she is the co-anchor at the news station reporting the terrorist-hostage takeover.
