Martin Sheen (born August 3, 1940) is an Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning US actor. He has received recognition for his performances as Captain Willard in the film, Apocalypse Now, and Capt. Oliver "Charlie" Queenan in the Martin Scorsese film, The Departed. Sheen also earned critical acclaim for playing President Josiah Bartlet on the long-running television drama series, The West Wing.

Purposely flunked his college entrance exam to the University of Dayton so that he could pursue an acting career instead. His father wholeheartedly disapproved until he had gained popular success, not even seeing Martin act until he saw him on the screen at a drive-in in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio.
