Made in America is sucessful 1993 film released on May 28, 1993 by Warner Bros. starring Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson, and featuring Nia Long, Jennifer Tilly and Will Smith.
Zora Matthews (Long), whose mother, Sarah (Goldberg) conceived her with the aid of an anonymous sperm donor, discovers her father is a white man named Hal Jackson (Danson). This comes as a major shock to Sarah, who had explicitly requested a black donor. The film revolves around Zora and her mother's rocky relationship with Jackson following the discovery of his ethnicity.
When the film opened in theaters on May 28, 1993, it grossed over 12 million dollars on its openning weekend. The film was released to over 2,000 theaters and grossed nearly 50 million dollars in the U.S. alone. The film grossed over 100 million dollars worldwide. The film also started Grammy Award-winning rapper Will Smith's successful career as a film actor.
The African Craft Shop is in the same street as a cinema advertising "A Paula Prentiss Retrospective". Prentiss is the wife of director Benjamin, Richard.
Carrie Fisher was an uncredited script doctor on the film.
