"Love Don't Cost a Thing" is the first single from Jennifer Lopez's second album, J. Lo (2001). It peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, besides being her first number one in the UK. Its Spanish-language version, "Amor Se Paga con Amor" ("Love Is Paid with Love"), featured on the Dutch and Spanish editions of J. Lo, only managed to chart on the U.S. Latin music charts. Jennifer performed the song for the first time at the MTV Europe Music Awards in November 2000. in Stockholm.
The lyrics of the song allude to indiscriminate treatment of the rich and poor, with regard to non-platonic relationships.
The music video for "Love Don't Cost a Thing" received two MTV Video Music Awards nominations in 2001: "Best Female Video" and "Best Dance Video".
