"Lonely" (also known as "Mr. Lonely") is a single by Senegalese singer Akon, it appears on his debut album, Trouble. The single was released in 2005 and was a worldwide hit. It reached number 1 in several countries, including United Kingdom, Germany (where it stayed there for 8 weeks) and Australia. It was also highly popular in France where it reached number 2, in Brazil it reached number 3 after 6 weeks on the charts, and in the United States it peaked at number 4. It also did extremely well in Senegal, Akon's motherland where it stayed on top of the charts for a very long time.
"The Lonely" was British Sea Power's third single and their second on Rough Trade. It was their first single to garner much press coverage and resulted in a pleasing chart position. Unusually, the nominal a-side actually features as the flipside on both versions. The main position is taken by "The Spirit of St. Louis", a tale of Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic. This is still regularly performed live despite it only appearing on this release. The title track was written as a tribute to Geoff Goddard, a friend of the band who wrote the 1960s number 1 single, "Johnny Remember Me".
"Lonely" is a song by Australian singer Shannon Noll. It was released in August 26 2006, and is the fourth single from Noll's second album Lift. It was co-written by Shannon Noll and Adam Reily.
With the release of the single, Noll created Australian ARIA chart history becoming the first artist to have their first 8 single releases reach the top 10 since the charts induction in 1988 (a record which Noll broke himself following the release of his latest single with Natalie Bassingthwaighte "Don't Give Up"). "Lonely" proved to be extremely popular on the high rating 2Day FM "Hot 30" countdown, spending a total of 73 nights in the countdown.
The video clip of "Lonely" was directed by Anthony Rose. The clip was shot in Sydney at the Star City Showroom as a live clip during his "Now I Run" tour in July 2006. One of the moodiest clips taken by Noll, the clip follows Noll in his hotel room and travelling in the streets in a cab on his way to the gig.
The single features an acoustic version of Noll's previous single "Now I Run".
"Lonely" is a pop song written by Merril Bainbridge and Owen Bolwell, produced by Siew for Bainbridge's second album Between the Days (1998). It was released as the album's first single in Australia in April 1998 and the United States and Japan in August 1998 (see 1998 in music) as a CD single. The bridge of the song samples the lyrics from the nursery rhyme "Georgie Porgie".
The song made its debut to the Australian ARIA Singles Chart at number seventy-four, making the song Bainbridge's fifth song to reach the top one hundred. On its second week it fell three places to seventy-seven but by the next week the song jumped nine places to sixty-eight and after six weeks of being in the chart it broke the top fifty at number forty-eight. After two weeks of being in the top fifty the song peaked at its peak position in Australia at number forty, then dropping out of the top fifty the next week. The song spent a total of three weeks in the top fifty and seventeen weeks in the top one hundred.
It was not Bainbridges biggest hit in the U.S. or Japan, only peaking on the U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart at number eighteen and spending four weeks in the chart and it debuted and peaked at number twenty-five in Japan.
"Mr. Lonely" is a song recorded by Bobby Vinton. It was released in 1964 and reached #1 on the United States charts. The song was on the album Roses Are Red. It talks about a soldier alone in a war without anyone to talk to, especially updates from back home.
Philippine singer Victor Wood made a bilingual version of the song, alternating the original lyrics with Filipino ones. This particular cover became popular in the Philippines and some fame to the entertainer.
In 2005, Senegalese singer Akon covered this single for Lonely and it was featured on his album Trouble. This song uses a sped-up sample of the earlier song.
