Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Smith (born February 2 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American gossip columnist. Liz Smith is known as The Grand Dame of Dish.
Elizabeth "Liz" Smith (born 11 December 1921) is a BAFTA Award-winning English actress best known for her roles in the sitcoms The Vicar of Dibley and The Royle Family, and who also appeared in the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Played Ms. Dilber in two TV versions of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens: Christmas Carol, A (1984) (TV), with George C. Scott and Christmas Carol, A (1999) (TV) with Patrick Stewart (I).
Did not work professionally as an actress until the age of 50 and from that point, became one of the most recogniseable faces on television and film, being named as the nation's favourite fictional grandmother. Previous to acting, she lived a difficult life of relative poverty, working in dead-end jobs while raising two children on her own.
