Lipstick Jungle is an American TV comedy-drama created by DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler for NBC Universal Television Studio. The hour-long series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell, who also serves as executive producer alongside showrunner Oliver Goldstick. The pilot was directed by Gary Winick.
The show premiered on February 7, 2008 as a midseason replacement taking over ER's spot at 10/9c. The series will also be broadcast on Living in the UK and Channel Seven in Australia. The show was originally slated to have 13 episodes. However, due to the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike, only 7 episodes were produced. It competes indirectly with ABC's Cashmere Mafia, created by Bushnell's former creative partner from Sex and the City, Darren Star.
On February 24, 2008, NBC ordered six additional scripts of Lipstick Jungle.
