The lemon (Citrus × limon) is a hybrid in cultivated wild plants. It is the common name for the reproductive tissue surrounding the seed of the angiosperm lemon tree. The lemon is used for culinary and non culinary uses throughout the world.The fruit is used primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, primarily in cooking and baking. Lemon juice is about 5% citric acid, which gives lemons a tart taste, and a pH of 2 to 3. This makes lemon juice an inexpensive, readily available acid for use in educational science experiments.
Lemon, born Andrew Anderson (1975-) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City.
Lemon is a critically acclaimed poet, spokenword artist, and actor. As a poet he has the most aired episodes on HBO's Def Poetry, eight times in six seasons, and was an original cast member of the TONY Award winning Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway. Lemon was also nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his writing and work on the show. Lemon has traveled the spokenword and theater scene for the last decade performing and selling out venues such as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Apollo Theater, Chicago Theater, Hollywood’s Kodak Theater and most recently he brought the house down in front 500,00 people at Philadelphia’s Live 8 concert. Nike also chose him to write a piece to help them sign young basketball star Lebron James.
He has recently shot three films with Spike Lee, "Sucker Free City”, "She Hate Me" and spikes latest "Inside Man" in which Lemon starred opposite Denzel Washington and Clive Owens. His theatre credits include "Slanguage" directed by Jo Bonney, “The Ride” at Ps 122 and "U" at the Mark Taper Forum, as well as teaching performance art workshops at different colleges, universities and institutions including Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Massachusetts and Sing Sing Prison.
Lemon is currently working on his memoir which will published and developed at the American Place Theatre's literature to life program and directed by the honorable Wynn Handman.
LEMON is the alter-ego of Producer, DJ, Multi-Instrumentalist, Record Label Boss and all round music lover Nick Hollywood.
He was one half of the team responsible for the seminal and hugely successful London night Club Montepulciano, which ran for over 11 years to great critical acclaim. He pioneered the UK Lounge scene, setting up the label Club Montepulciano Recordings, through which he released a series of influential compilations (Bongo Beach 1 and 2, Showgirls and Sugardaddies) together with LEMON's debut album, a string of sold-out 7" singles and EPs, and the work of various other Lounge artists.
Tracks from LEMON have since been licensed to numerous compilations worldwide and can be heard in adverts across Europe and the States. LEMON songs also appear on the soundtracks to several Hollywood movies and frequently crop up on TV.
In 2005 Nick Hollywood launched the new label Freshly Squeezed Music. Amongst their first releases was LEMON's second album entitled With a Twist.
