King Solomon's Mines is a 1937 movie, the first film adaptation of the 1885 novel by the same name by Henry Rider Haggard. It starred Paul Robeson, Cedric Hardwicke, Anna Lee, John Loder, and Roland Young. The film was produced by Gaumont British Picture Corporation, adapted by Charles Bennett (uncredited), Michael Hogan, Roland Pertwee A.R. Rawlinson (uncredited) and Ralph Spence (uncredited). It was directed by Robert Stevenson.
The 1937 film follows the original novel faithfully, except for some musical interludes deliberately added to give Paul Robeson a chance to sing. The more famous 1950 Technicolor version severely alters the tale to make Allan Quatermain into a romantic hero who falls in love with the heroine, whereas in the original film Cedric Hardwicke played him as a professorial type completely uninterested in romance.
King Solomon's Mines (1950) is an adventure film loosely based of the 1885 novel by the same name by Henry Rider Haggard, starring Deborah Kerr, Stewart Granger, and Richard Carlson. It was adapted by Helen Deutsch, directed by Compton Bennett and Andrew Marton, and released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The movie won Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Color and Best Film Editing and was nominated for Best Picture.
Like virtually all film versions, it changes Haggard's plot to include a female lead. But this version strays even further from the novel than the 1937 British adaptation. There are several African characters in the book, particularly Umbopa, a king in disguise. In the earlier film, Paul Robeson received top billing for the role, whereas in this version, Umbopa's importance is greatly reduced.
In 1959, a sequel titled Watusi was made by the same studio.
King Solomon's Mines was 2004 two-part TV miniseries loosely based on the novel King Solomon's Mines (1885) by H. Rider Haggard and previous film versions. It starred Patrick Swayze as Allan Quatermain and Alison Doody as a made up character called Elizabeth Maitland. Though serious in tone, new characters and radically changed story elements were incorporated, so it is not faithful to the book at all.
King Solomon's Mines was a 1985 film loosely based on the novel King Solomon's Mines (1885) by H. Rider Haggard. It starred Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone, Herbert Lom and John Rhys-Davies. It was adapted by Gene Quintano and James R. Silke and directed by J. Lee Thompson. This version of the story was a light, comedic take, deliberately referencing and parodying Indiana Jones.
It was followed by what critics considered "a badly made sequel" for "bad-film enthusiasts"blank">http://www.mrqe.com/lookup?Allan+Quatermain+and+the+Lost+City+of+Gold: _Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1987).

The warrior that Quatermain fights towards the end of the movie was really a white man who was digitally painted black.
The word Nomolos, the name of the fight to the death, is meaningless in Zulu. It is simply Solomon backwards.
Guide Allan Quatermain helps a young lady (Beth) find her lost husband somewhere in Africa. It's a spectacular adventure story with romance, because while they fight with wild animals and cannibals, they fall in love. Will they find the lost husband and finish the nice connection?
