Keeping the Promise is a 1997 historical drama television film based on the children's novel The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare. It stars Brendan Fletcher as Matt Hallowell, Keith Carradine as Matt's father, Annette O'Toole as Matt's mother, Gordon Tootoosis as Chief Saknis, and William Lightning as Attean. The film was released to DVD and VHS on July 25, 2000. A boy Matt Hallowell is left with his family's claim while his father goes to fetch his mother, sister, and brother. The indians near his claim help him when his family gets delayed in trade for him to teach Attean William Lightning to read english.
