Judson (Jud) Taylor (born February 25, 1940) is an American actor and television director, who sometimes also used the name Alan Smithee.
Taylor is perhaps best known for his directorial work on 1960s television classics such as Star Trek, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Mannix. He also performed as an actor in small parts on shows such as The Fugitive and Gunsmoke before taking up directing. He also played the part of Goff in The Great Escape.
One of the episodes of Star Trek directed by Taylor, "The Paradise Syndrome," featured actress Jill Ireland who was married to Taylor's The Great Escape co-star, David McCallum. Ireland later left McCallum for another of Taylor's co-stars in The Great Escape, Charles Bronson.
Taylor was Vice-president of the Directors Guild of America from 1977 to 1981.
