Josef Sommer (born 26 June 1934) is an American film actor. He made his debut in the film Dirty Harry and appeared in Witness opposite Harrison Ford and Moonlight and Valentino with Elizabeth Perkins. He has had starring roles in two short-lived series, Hothouse (1988) and Under Cover (early 1990s). As of 2007, he has appeared in almost 100 films.
He was born Maximilian Josef Sommer in Greifswald, Germany and was raised in North Carolina, the son of Elisebeth and Clemons Sommer, a professor of history. He has a daughter, Maria, and studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology.

Trained as an actor at the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, CT.
Performed with the Seattle Repertory Theater.
Made his Broadway debut in 1970.
Father Clemons Sommer was a professor of history at the University of North Carolina.
Made his debut at the age of 9 in a production of "Watch on the Rhine" with the Carolina Playmakers in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
