John E. Walsh (born December 26, 1945 in Auburn, New York) is the host of the TV show America's Most Wanted. Walsh is known for his anti-crime activism, which includes ride-alongs with law enforcement and, at times, taunting and harassing criminals who were arrested as he watched, particularly those who target children, following the murder of his son, Adam, in 1981. He usually appears wearing a black leather coat, which has become part of his visual signature.
John Walsh (1 July 1726 - 9 March, 1795) was a British scientist and Secretary to the Governor of Bengal.
John was son of Joseph Walsh, Governor of Fort St. George and cousin to Nevil Maskelyne, the Astronomer Royal, and his sister, the wife of Lord Clive.
He entered the British East India Company at a young age and eventually became Clive's private secretary. Upon his return to England, he settled at Warfield Park, near Bracknell in Berkshire. His interests were scientific and he was the first person to make accurate experiments on the torpedo fish. He was awarded the Copley Medal in 1773 for a paper on their electrical properties.
John Walsh was a member of the Legislature of Dakota Territory.
He was born in Ireland. In 1869, he established a homestead five miles east of Elk Point in Union County, Dakota Territory. He was known as "Honest John" and was later elected to the Dakota Territorial Legislature, where he served from 1881 to 1882.
John Walsh (24 May 1830 - 30 July 1898) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Toronto, Canada from 1888 to 1898.
In 1996, he was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world
On July 27, 1981, his six-year-old son Adam was kidnapped from a Sears department store in Hollywood, Florida and his remains were found sixteen days later. Although devastated by their son's murder, Walsh and his wife campaigned for better provisions to help find missing children. He now serves on the board of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, an organisation that he helped found.
In July 2005, Walsh attempted to assist the family of missing teen Natalee Holloway on his show. Walsh was critical of the Aruban crime investigation and, along with television personality Phil McGraw, urged Americans to boycott Aruba.
Before his son's murder (and before hosting "America's Most Wanted" (1988)), he was employed as a hotel marketer.
Believes that serial killer Ottis Toole (who died in 1996) was responsible for his son Adam's murder, though no one has ever been officially charged in the crime.
Author of 3 books: Tears Of Rage, No Mercy and Public Enemies.
Is of Irish-American heritage.
He and his wife Reve have four children: Adam (b. 1975, d.1981), Meghan (b. 1982), Callahan (b. 1985) and Hayden (b.1995). Their youngest son, who often accompanies his father while filming "America's Most Wanted" (1988), is said to resemble his elder brother Adam.
Wife, Reve, filed for divorce on August 1, 2002. However, they later reconciled and the divorce proceeding was dismissed.
