Jimmy Smith, (December 8, 1925 (year of birth is disputable & is often stated as 1928) - February 8, 2005) was a jazz musician whose Hammond B-3 electric organ performances helped to popularize this instrument.
Born as James Oscar Smith in Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.. Smith was influenced by both gospel and blues. He first achieved prominence in the 1950s when his recordings became popular on jukeboxes. In the late 1950s and the sixties he helped to create the jazz style known as 'soul jazz'.
In 2005, Jimmy Smith was awarded the NEA Jazz Masters Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the highest honors that the United States bestows upon jazz musicians.
James Dean "Jimmy" Smith (born 7 January, 1987 in Newham, England) is a Chelsea professional footballer.
Smith is an attacking-midfielder by trade and made his first appearance for the Chelsea first team in the last game of the 2005-06 Premiership season, coming on as a substitute for Ricardo Carvalho against Newcastle United.
He had been part of the Chelsea Academy for nearly three years when he was first called into the First Team, and José Mourinho has stated that he wishes for more young players to follow in Smith's footsteps and become part of the main squad. On September 272006 Jimmy joined Queens Park Rangers F.C. on loan for an initial month.
In that month Smith impressed, scoring twice in his first two games including a goal on his home debut at Loftus Road in the 3-3 draw with Norwich City. He impressed the QPR management team enough that it was announced in October 2006 his loan spell would be extended for a further two months. Later on in the year, QPR announced they had extended the loan until the end of the season.
On 4 November 2006 Jimmy Smith scored two goals against Crystal Palace at Loftus Road to help QPR win 4-2, the first goal was particularly good, a volley after a good chest control on the edge of the area. He got the second with a neat header.
On 19 July 2007, he signed on loan for Championship side Norwich City, a deal that will run until the end of December. However, on 25 July 2007, Smith sustained a worrying calf injury in Norwich's pre-season friendly with FC Zwolle, which kept him out of action for almost three months.
Smith finally made his competitive debut for Norwich on 23 October 2007, as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor.
The final appearance of his loan spell with The Canaries came in their 1-1 home draw vs Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 29, 2007. Smith has largely disappointed in his loan spell, however, he has been played out of position on the right of a four man midfield for much of his time at the club. After the game with Wolves, Norwich manager Glenn Roeder confirmed he had been in talks with Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen and that his club hoped to extend Smith's time there until the end of the season.

Jimmy Smith (born May 15, 1895 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - January 1, 1974) was a major league infielder often referred to as Greenfield Jimmy or Bluejacket. He was a switch hitter and threw right handed. His major league debut came on September 26, 1914 with the Chicago Whales. In 1919, he won a World Series Ring with the Cincinnati Reds, and went on to serve his final game with the Phillies on September 3, 1922. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
James "Jimmy" Smith (born 24 September, 1911 in Airdrie - December 2003) was a Scottish professional footballer who played for East Stirlingshire and Rangers. During his time at Rangers he scored 249 goals in 259 games.
Smith moved from East Stirlingshire to Rangers in 1928 and made his debut against Hamilton Academical in March 1929. He only featured twice in his first season at Ibrox and only played once the following season, and scored in a 3-1 win against Dundee. In season 1930-31, he scored a remarkable 21 goals in 21 games, including 5 in a 8-0 defeat of Clyde, as Rangers won the League championship for the fifth season running.
After Rangers missed out on their sixth successive League championship in season 1931-32, during which Smith had scored 5 goals in 8 games, the championship returned to Ibrox the following season and Smith finished top scorer with 34 goals, including 4 hat-tricks.
In season 1933-34, Smith and striking partner Bob McPhail, notched up 72 goals between them in 47 games as Rangers continued their dominance of Scottish football. Smith also collected his first Scottish Cup medal, scoring in a 5-0 defeat of St Mirren in the final at Hampden.
Success for Smith and Rangers continued. The League title was again won in 1934-35 with Smith scoring 43 goals in 38 matches, including 6 in a 7-1 defeat of Dunfermline Athletic. He also collected his second Scottish Cup medal, scoring twice in the 2-1 against Hamilton Academical in the final.
Rangers went on to win two of the next four League championships before World War II and Smith was Rangers' top scorer in three of the four, including 31 goals from 38 games in the 1936-37 success.
Smith continued to play for Rangers during the unofficial matches played during the War but retired from football upon the return of official domestic football in 1946-47
Despite his incredible goalscoring record, he only ever won 2 caps for Scotland, both against Northern Ireland. He won his first cap on 20 October 1934 in a 2-1 defeat in Belfast and his second cap was on 10 November 1937, where Smith scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw in Glasgow.
After his playing career, he served Rangers for a further 21 years in coaching and scouting capacities.
Jimmy 'Jinky Jim' Smith (born January 20, 1947 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former football player.
During his career he played for Aberdeen and Newcastle United. He transferred from Aberdeen to Newcastle in July, 1969 for a fee of £80,000. He became a popular player amongst the club's supporters, with his mazy runs and flair that enthralled the St James' Park crowd. He also possessed 4 caps for Scotland.
Smith experienced a series of knee problems and was sent out on loan to Celtic in the hope it would recover him from the injury problems and allow him to regain form. However he failed to do this and was forced to retire at the age of 29.
