Jim Sturgess (born May 16, 1981) is a British actor most famous for his role in Across the Universe (film), portraying Jude, a paternally shorn young man who travels to the U.S. amid the raging throes of the late '60s and falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood).
Sturgess was born in London, UK. He is a former member of the National Youth Music Theatre (1993-95) and studied at the University of Salford's School of Media, Music and Performance. He also was in a band called the Dilated Spies. He is currently dating Mariel Norris, whom he met shortly before the Across the Universe production. Sturgess sustained almost a decade of roles in British productions, mostly telefilms, including I'm Frank Morgan (2000), Hawkins (2001), and the three installments of the Quest series.
In 2008, he appeared in the historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl (film) in the supporting role of George Boleyn opposite Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana. He also stars in 21 as the male lead Ben Campbell, a movie about 6 MIT students who took Vegas for millions, by counting cards, with a cast including Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey . Later in the year he will star as Martin McGartland in the film Man on the Run.
