Jayne Wisener (born 19 May 1987) is a Northern Irish actress and singer. She plays Johanna in the film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Wisener was born in Ballymoney and grew up in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, where she attended the Coleraine High School for girls. After graduating, she went on to train at the Royal Scottish College of Music and Drama. In 2005, she represented Antrim in the highly acclaimed Rose of Tralee competition. Wisener also was part of Musical Theatre 4 Youth, and appeared in a workshop production of Falling.
In earlier days of her youth, Jayne worked in a local Pizzeria called Pizza Pomodoro.
While performing in a youth production of West Side Story at the Millennium Forum in Derry, Wisener was spotted by a talent scout, who asked her to audition for a role in Sweeney Todd. Wisener was, at age 19, deemed too old to play the 15-year-old Johanna; when told this, Wisener "e-mailed them some pictures of [herself] without make-up. Usually looking young does [an actor] no favours at all but [she was] quite pleased this time." Wisener made her stage debut in the UK premiere of the musical Parade at the Donmar Warehouse theatre in 2007.
In 2005 she joined children's charity Music Theatre 4 Youth, which acts as a step ladder for young people interested in the stage.
Jayne took a degree course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow. Previous students include Bill Paterson (I), David Tennant (I), Daniela Nardini, Billy Boyd (I), James McAvoy, Dawn Steele, Patrick Doyle (I).
At Primary school, her music teacher was the sister of James Nesbitt (I).
Attended DH Christie Memorial Primary School and Coleraine High School.
Her many interests include dancing, fencing and singing karaoke!.
In addition to her acting and singing talents, Jayne also plays the piano and trumpet.
Became involved with local music and drama groups from an early age and received private singing lessons from vocal coach, Peter Wilson (XIV), who describes her as "one of the most promising students [whom I] have ever worked with".
Spotted by Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) casting director Jeremy James Taylor during a stage adaptation of West Side Story (1961) with Music Theatre 4 Youth (MT4Uth) in the Millennium Forum in Londonderry.
